Polite Download
Polite technology allows part of the ad to load before the content; the rest loads once the content is finished. All ad units on Yahoo!7 that support Flash creative also support polite downloading!
Specifications
General Flash Specifications
• Loading files from cross domains is not permitted for security reasons.
• The frame rate for flash files may not exceed 24 frames per second. 18 frames per second is preferred. For more
information, please read "SWFs with High Frame Rates May Slow System Performance".
• Non-user-initiated audio is not permitted in flash ads.
• Audio may be activated on any user click. Activation on rollover is allowed with the following restrictions:
1. On rollout audio must immediately stop.
2. A 1 second delay between rollover and the start of the audio is required.
3. Yahoo!7 may reject ads which include audio on rollover that has a negative user experience.
There are usually three components to a polite download ad:
1. The alternative image (either GIF or JPG), with a 20k maximum.
2. An initial Flash file, with a 40k maximum.
3. The Flash file to be politely downloaded, with an 100k maximum
Animation
• Animation may run for 15 seconds (looping permitted). No strobing effects within banners are allowed.
HTML
• HTML code cannot exceed 3k.
• 2 images maximum, total file size of images cannot exceed 20k.
• Client-side imagemaps are acceptable and must be provided by the client.
• Forms tags in HTML code must use "get" in the method.
HTML/DHTML/Javascript Ad
• All Javascript creative is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Javascript code cannot exceed 3 kbytes.
• If Javascript code exists with HTML, then the total filesize cannot exceed 3 kbytes.
• Javascript files may be referenced remotely in which case the remote javascript file can be a maximum of 6 kb.
• 2 images maximum, total file size of images cannot exceed 20kbytes.
• All actions must be initiated by user click. No mouseover starts.
Linking URL
• Linking URLs must be domain name based and cannot be the IP address (i.e., http://207.123.456.78 )
Java
• All Java creative is reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
• Javascript and HTML accompanying the Java applet must not exceed 3kb in file size.
• All actions must be initiated by user click. No mouseover starts.
• Yahoo must be able to track user click-thrus. Yahoo!7 will help advise developers on how to implement this.
• Java banners may not exceed 50K. This includes all primary and supporting files (.gif/.cab/.jar etc.).
Rich Media run on the Yahoo!7 homepage currently can only go through the Third Parties listed here under the heading "Third Party Vendor's currently allowed on AU Homepage" in terms of running an In Banner streaming creative from within an LREC on the homepage. Please check this page regularly for an up-to-date reference of what is allowed and detailed information regarding Third Parties.
If your creative is to serve across the Yahoo!7 Network then only the Third Party Vendors listed under the heading "Third Party Vendor's currently allowed across network (excludes AU Homepage)" on the same link provided above are allowed to run.
